Mizuno Prospect Series GXF101 Youth Baseball First Baseman's Mitt (12-Inch)

The other reviews are right on the money on this glove. I've coached little league for 8 years now and this was a great purchase not only for my own boys, but for sharing to increase my team's likelihood of making the catch on any throw at first, esp. errant throws. It adds a bit of range due to it's size and also is more forgiving on digging a ball out of the dirt. We started using it when my boys were 9, and now at 11 and 12 it's well broken in and still is a great mitt. It's a good price and it does close relatively easily from early on, in part due to the Mizuno "Power Close" notched leather design.

I gave it only four stars, however, because now that my boys are older, and the boys are throwing the ball harder, the mitt stings if you catch a well thrown ball in the palm. To make the leather that soft and supple, it couldn't be as heavy and thick, so there's a trade-off in protection. I bought this first baseman's glove for my 9-year-old son. I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of this glove at this price. The leather is very soft & the glove came out of the box feeling like it was already broken in. In fact, my son used it in a game the day after receiving it & it worked perfectly. The size was just right too, as we had looked at adult first baseman's gloves & they were huge. I highly recommend this glove!!
